BookTalk.org News: 8/17/2008
A potential hurricane is heading towards Tampa Bay, Florida, so there is a distinct possibility I won’t have access to electricity, food, water, shelter, and maybe even BookTalk.org at some point in the next few days. Should I vanish from the site you now have a reasonable explanation as to why.
A new forum dedicated exclusively to poetry has been created and named, “A Passion for Poetry.” You’ll find it located in the “Special Forums” category.
We need suggestions for our next non-fiction book selection. Visit the "Non-Fiction Book Suggestions & Polls" forum to give us your ideas on what we should read and discuss together next. A suggestion thread has been created as a sticky topic at the top of the forum.

Our Blogs are getting very little activity and I am inclined to delete them. We have enough bells and whistles on BookTalk.org that the Blogs just aren’t adding much value. If you feel differently let me know.
Our Current Book Selections…
Walden by Henry David Thoreau – July & August 2008
This book is available for free online.
50 reasons people give for believing in a god by Guy P. Harrison – August & September 2008

On Being Certain by Robert Burton – September & October 2008
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0312359209?ie=UTF8&tag=booktalk08-20& link_code=as3&camp=211189&creative=373489&creativeASIN=0312359209
If you have never participated in a BookTalk.org book discussion I make a suggestion. Now is the time to order a copy of "On Being Certain" so that you can receive it within a week or two and start reading it before the actual book discussion period begins. But even if you don't get a copy till the beginning of October there will still be time to join the discussion as it stretches for two full months.

| A few people posted about Hurricane Fay on another thread: it did not hit Florida after all. |

I'm safe and sound. The storm never developed into a hurricane and it completely weaved around us here in the Tampa Bay area. We might not be so lucky the next time, but for now I am here online to annoy you some more. |
