Hello from Georgia

This is very exciting - I enjoy online discussions. My only experience is that I have participated in Graduate school. I am the leader of a book club with my friends. We meet once a month, during the day. Our discussions don't run really deep...we usually chat about other things more so than the book. This month is Life of Pi. I have just finished the first of Gabaldon's Outlander series and am currently reading House of Sand and Fog.
I joined this book club to participate in real book discussions and am looking forward to doing just that. I have ordered the non-fiction read and am waiting for the polls to close on fiction.
I have eclectic tastes but especially enjoy historical fiction, scientific non-fiction and history.

I am not sure to which book you refer but... I have enjoyed them all. Life of Pi had an unsatisfying ending for me. Having said that, it has left me thinking a lot about the book, Pi's trials real, imangined, enhanced, altered??? I don't know.
I am starting the non-fiction read tomorrow.

His ordeal, as I remember reading it, was supposed to have been real and that he used his imagination to conceal or bandage the traumatic atrocity of having witnessed his family die - his Mother murdered in front of him.

The ending was awesome for an otherwise less than average read. It really makes the book - unlike some books that leave you flat at the end like Cancer Ward.
