Ebooks that need unique Readers.
I tried to find a paperback of "The Longest Day", by Cornelius Ryan in every store in the Southern hemisphere (it seems), but without any luck. Then I saw that Dymock's had it as an eBook. Put my money down and downloaded the book., That's when my troubles started.. Turns out that it can o...

Re: Both science and religion are wrong
Hi John, welcome to Booktalk, and thanks for engaging on this fascinating material. It reminds me of a conversation I had with astronomers years ago on the question "Is Gravity a Force?" To common sense, the answer is obviously yes, but for the astrophysics of relativistic space-time the ...

Re: Both science and religion are wrong
I'm sure you didn't mean to sound condescending, Peter. But you've reiterated exactly what I said. I questioned Roy's claim that "space expanded" by saying that there must have been infinite space already. When I say "space" I mean "room", an "empty place", et...

Re: Both science and religion are wrong
"There was no space to be expanded into." See, that doesn't make sense to me. It simply cannot be true. The only remotely reasonable statement that's ever made about the universe is that it is an infinite, mostly-empty space . If there was no space to begin with, then nothing existed, not...

Re: James Webb telescope countdown to launch and first light
Pretty impressive, Isn't it. And they're saying that this vast area represents only a space the size of a grain of sand, viewed if held on the tip of your finger at arm's length.... How can that be possible? Space must never end. Yet how can that be? Maybe this should go in the Philosophy section. :|

Re: Both science and religion are wrong
Errr...the Big Bang was NOT an explosion! You could have google wiki for an explanation: "The Big Bang is not an explosion of matter moving outward to fill an empty universe. Instead, space itself expands with time everywhere and increases the physical distances between comoving points. In oth...

Re: Both science and religion are wrong
Both science and religion are wrong when they try to talk about the existence of God and creation and when they try to define existence ; and here is why, and I would be happy if someone could prove me wrong! I always think there's really no point in looking for a reliable way to decide about the e...

Space telescopes and god.
The launch and placement of the James Webb "super telescope" is giving us some remarkable images of space. As we marvel at those brilliant vistas of space dust and stars, we're told that the scale of the views we're seeing can be represented by imagining a grain of sand on the tip of a fin...

Re: PLUTARCH'S LIVES.
I'll check out that chapter, Lan. It'd be very interesting, I'd say.
First I'm looking for the Julius Caesar chapter. I watched the 1953 movie the other day, and at the beginning there is a quote by Plutarch about Julius Caesar, and his falling popularity with the masses. Can't wait to find that.
