I really admire the late Carl Sagan's ideas and philosophies. While a he was rational thinker, he masterfully expressed the wonder and profundity of science and the natural world. In addition to a scientist he was a philosopher who explored humankind's place in an astounding universe.

I think that I have read every book that was aimed at the non scientist that he ever wrote. One of his books is actually called "Pale Blue Dot." If I recall it is a series of essays, one of which expands on the theme of this film.
