BJ Bourg -- pronounced "Berg", like an iceberg

Howdy all! My name is BJ Bourg and I'm from southeast Louisiana.
First and foremost, I'm a father and a husband, and the highlight of my life is spending time with my family. Work tends to get in the way of that somewhat, but not as much as it used to. Currently, I'm the chief investigator for a district attorney's office and the only time I work weekends or nights is when we have a major trial going on. Before that, I was a police academy instructor, a detective, and a patrol cop. While working at those jobs, I was also a member of the SWAT team and commanded a police sniper team, so I was on double call most of the time and missed many family events.
My greatest hobby has always been fighting sports. I'm a spectator and a participant. I boxed professionally from 2002 through 2005 and fought in a number of open martial arts tournaments. I've had the great joy of training my son to fight, and now we're both training my daughter to defend herself.
My favorite all-time author is Louis L'Amour. At one time or another, I've owned every novel he ever wrote, as well as many of his short story collections. I still have most of those books, but I think some of them got lost along the way. (I was like seventeen when he died and I felt like I'd lost a part of me.) Currently, I've been enjoying CJ Box's Joe Pickett novels. I'm on the second one--maybe not in the correct order--and I want to eventually read every one in the series.
I love German Shepherds and have a young male named Kristof. I used to have a Ball Python that was a little over five feet, but he died after I had him for about seventeen years. My wife has a Bichon Frise that looks like a marshmallow on legs and five chickens, and my daughter will pick up any critter she can get her hands on.
Well, there's a lot more to tell, but that'll have to do for now. I have to get to bed earlier than usual, because I'm actually working late and getting to work early this week for a murder trial, and I HAVE to get a bowl of homemade ice cream sundae before bed.
Take it easy!
