Is Tess of the D'Urbervilles' the Most depressing tale ever written ?
And do you expect Many suicides after the new BBC. play based on the book. AND can you think of a book by the Author that ain't miserable ?

hello Jay - Well, Thomas Hardy Novels make wonderful films.


But I do agree with you. Jude the Obscure must be, for me, the most depressing book ever written.....no humour in there whatsoever. And human beings just ain't like that. We can always find something to laugh at...in real life. That's why the Jews are so great at making us laugh!!

OMG!! Haven't read the book but watched the BBC series, was seriously depressed for about 2 days after the final episode....Thomas Hardy certainly didn't seem to enjoy happily ever afters...Also I don't think I liked Angel very much? :(
