The grill of a jack-wagon. Perhaps similar to a word I just saw a few minutes ago and haven't looked up: Jabroni.

Re: Coronavirus
Here's another Covid-19 data presentation to play around with. You can check by country or state, switch between log and linear scales, etc. It uses the Johns Hopkins data. Seems like this stuff is becoming a part time obsession.

The "ChiCom Flu?" Really?KindaSkolarly wrote:TThe leftist media here has churned up a maximum amount of fear. A couple thousand people have died from the ChiCom Flu, so we're supposed to sit cowering in closets for months? .
Apparently the "Com" stands for Communist. Just so we all know this virus came from a communist country.
I posted something yesterday about this but then deleted it. It's like whatever. Call the virus whatever you want. I suspect before long our friends on the far-right conspiratorial fringe are going to claim the release of the Coronavirus was a false flag event. Or a . . . bioweapon?
https://www.mediamatters.org/coronaviru ... s-outbreak
I suspect the conspiracy theory is still in its early stages. If you think about it, weaponizing a worldwide pandemic is not the greatest strategy. It's a bit like shooting someone by having the bullet go through your own head first. But the conspiracy theory doesn't really need to make much sense if your goal is to scare people into buying your end-of-the-world products.Alex Jones wrote:I am very sad about this virus and very sad about the bioweapons and things that are going on, but it is an opportunity for people to take advantage of the products we have. . . . We got food, we got guts, we got red blood, we’ll kick your ass if you attack us.”
In reality, this pandemic was predicted by scientists many years ago. I do think we need to end the open animal markets in places like Wuhan. The SARS virus probably came from the same breeding ground.
I'd like to also point out that scientists in China did very quickly come up with the genomic sequence of COVID-19 and share it with the world, allowing scientists to get a start on a possible vaccine or treatment. Why did the Chinese government allow them to do that?

Re: Coronavirus
The US is now # 1 in number of people who have been infected with Covid-19 as well as the number of currently active cases. Unfortunately we also know both of those numbers are artificially low due to the low rate of testing.

The numbers of infected in Michigan are doubling every 3 or 4 days but that's likely due to lack of testing. The true number of infect in Michigan some fear may be about 100,000.
It has also struck Navy ships at sea and THAT is scary! What happens if and when our ships can't be manned safely anymore?

I drove to get essentials this past Tuesday. Places like Chief Auto Parts and Office Depot had a lot of activity for a shelter in place order having already been announced. Those two business types are not listed (as far as my understanding goes) as "essential" business. You might be able to stretch Chief Auto, but Office Depot??!! Too many people going in and out of Chief Auto.. It looked very much like business as usual.
Things are quieter at night where I live.. A few people out walking their dogs but for the most part it's pretty still in the evenings.
Parks have been closed because some of them in the city aren't very large and there were complaints posted on Twitter and Facebook that too many people were crowding certain areas (Silverlake, Runyan Canyon). I saw some of the posted pics. It seemed no different than what my familiarity with the foot traffic there is like normally.
I'm not sure how big hospitals like Kaiser are doing here in the heart of the city (where I'm at). I haven't heard a whole lot about any of them being overwhelmed.
I think what's not being mentioned is that some hospitals are overwhelmed because more people are going in with symptoms that aren't necessarily related to COVID19. Add the recent report that some of these tests are giving false positives and false negatives you've got yourself a monumental mess.
This morning I decided to take a break from the news.. Sometimes its a bit overwhelming..
The "infodemic" is probably worse than the pandemic itself.

Re: Coronavirus
What i’m Gathering is that the active booktalk contributors are so far so good, I’m glad to see that, if it’s true. From my perspective I’m still working and depending on whether people pay attention to the guidelines for hygiene and social distancing life should stay that way. We as a country have put this thing in motion and now we have to play it out. For most of us, life is either hazy or is going to be. I don’t agree that this situation is surreal, I think that it is appropriate. This whole scenario is entirely a leisure class phenomenon that has been spread by, well, the leisure class, this includes the business class as well. If I have a resentment, it is purely that the people who are responsible for the spread are the ones demanding these quarantine actions, and of course we have ignoramuses running around making matters worse.
We live in libertarian times and this is a libertarian dilemma.

Re: Coronavirus
I went to town today to get perishable foods. I did my due diligence, grabbing the sanitizing wipe from the entry, dousing everything in vodka on the way out, etc.
In between, it blew my mind to see these people I know walking right up to me, face to face, to have happy discussions. Naturally, I backed up a bit, and they scowled at me.
To some people, it's a challenge. They demand to know who's taking this stupidity seriously. They want to know if you're one of the crazies. And I'm not sure what to think...
Sorry for the offense, but the people who've done this are Republicans. I know... I live in a town of 3 thousand. It shouldn't be political, but for some strange reason, the memetics of this are entrenched based on political affiliation.
If this flattens and halts in the next day or two, I'm going to be a die-hard republican. because there's something with the math that I'm missing.
Is Trump stupid? Are Republicans stupid? What am I missing? Are the internet algorithms preventing me from seeing the stupidity of Democrats? I see all the hatred from both sides and dig deep, and it's always the Republican side that I disagree with... I'm uncertain as always.
