Hello Again

Unread post

Hello All,
My name is Ravi Mulchansingh and I live in Trinidad which sits just on top of South America - Trinidad is also the southerly most island in the West Indies - any closer, and we would still be joined to the South American mainland. I'm married and have four children. I "inherited" my love for reading from my dad who is a teacher, and grew up surrounded by books and magazines. I recall visiting this site sometime ago - i believe chasing a thread on a Jared Diamond book. I last week received a message from Ophelia suggesting I join and participate in the discussion - Ophelia may have gotten my contact from an ad-hoc blog I made sometime ago. The people and books on this forum do make for interesting discussions . I recently read VS Naipaul's last book - A Writer's People:Ways of Looking and Feeling. (Naipaul was born in Trinidad). Indeed discussing books (ultimately ideas) amongst a persons of diverse backgrounds will expose "ways of seeing and feeling" that are universal, different and possibly even opposed. But that is the challenge of the "civilization" we aspire too. I am a mechanical engineer by training, however should I go back to school I would like to understand a bit more of the economic systems that drives our world. My view of history and man has a anthropological/evolutionary slant(Jared Dimaond influenced) - and I would like to see the History of Man along these lines taught/ explored with all the Children of the world - the religious leaders and their gods permitting.
