Re: Republican plan to reduce Deficit
Exactly.
The problem is, Republicans now are not interested in running the country. They are interested in asserting their moral agenda. Hating gays and stopping abortion is not a plan of government.
They don't understand the economy, and the numbers bear this out.

It is not fiscal conservatives who are in charge of republican policy. We would all be a great deal better off if they were, but their voice has not been heard there for decades.

Are you pushing your own short comings on us and safely hating them from a distance?
Is this the virtue of faith? To never change your mind: especially when you should?
Young Earth Creationists take offense at the idea that we have a common heritage with other animals. Why is being the descendant of a mud golem any better?

Re: Republican plan to reduce Deficit
Republicans don't take the deficit seriously. After all, a primary economic policies of Reagan and Bush Jr. was massive tax cuts without corresponding spending cuts, leading to large deficits. When Republicans pursue one of their causes, like the Iraq War, they totally ignore the costs. They only bring up the deficit when they attempt to block social spending that they're philosophically opposed to.
As a practical matter, raising taxes is a necessary step to reduce the deficit. However, current Republicans are still advocating more tax cuts and treat any tax increase as blasphemous.

in one republican's words.
There can be no working across the aisle, because it is a battle between godlessness and Christianity. Make the Bush tax breaks permanent, repeal any banking oversight, let big business have it's way, and the economy will snap right back into tip top shape.

here's a video explaining our debt problem narrated by Dule Hill from "Psych", which is a hilarious tv show on USA network... but i digress.
particularly informative is a graph of our debt starting at about 6 minutes in.

Yes, this is the old "Trickle Down" theory again. We all know what is trickling and we need to stop those who what to from doing that to us.
