Re: Suggestions for setting up an Author's Showcase at the library
Hi Denio Press I've never done an Author's Showcase either but since you haven't had any responses yet I thought I'd make a couple of suggestions. To attract children to your table perhaps some cup cakes or sweets (snakes!) and a couple of little rubber toys that look like a Chinese Lion if you can ...

Re: New and Nervous!
Welcome to Book talk, Olivia. I haven't been a member very long myself. I didn't publish my first book until I retired (a romantic travel mystery). I live in Queensland, Australia and was also very nervous when I was young. I did overcome it though - mainly by just getting out and talking to people ...

Hi Evan,
Just wanted to welcome you to Booktalk. I'm an Aussie too, from Queensland and I only joined Booktalk recently. I'll look forward to chatting in some of the other forums as you find your feet.

Re: What are you currently reading?
<t>I've just started reading The Blake Soul by I.C. Camilleri, another Goodreads author. I've just finished Mama Tina by Christina Noble which was a very moving account of her work with underprivileged children in Vietnam and Mongolia. A truly amazing woman who makes me feel quite guilty that I have...

Re: Has anyone else been deeply emotionally effected by a book? If so, help me get through this.
Coincidentally, I've just finished reading "Hold my Hand" by Glenys Carl. Has anyone else on Booktalk read it? It is about a woman whose son goes on holiday to Australia and is badly beaten, leaving him brain damaged. Its different to other stories about hardship - maybe its the way she wr...

Re: I need some help...
Hi Froglipz, I'd try contacting associations set up to help people with depression as they are easy to identify. Also consider publishing it as an ebook so anyone looking for that sort of help can locate it. Lifeline (I guess you have Lifeline in the States?) might be another avenue. There are a lot...

Re: Has anyone else been deeply emotionally effected by a book? If so, help me get through this.
Colleen McCullough's book "The Thorn Birds" affected me deeply, as did the movie. I found the love between Father Ralph and Meggie incredibly moving and emotionally draining. It stayed with me for some weeks and reading the book for a second time many years later had the same effect. My ad...
