Re: Sunday's Back

Definitely warrants a second reading. Hoping this time to follow that red thread. "And yet, in some indescribable way, she kept recurring like a motive in music through all his mad adventures afterwards, and the glory of her strange hair ran like a red thread through those dark and ill-drawn ta...

Re: "the gravity of a girl," or The Genius of Suzanne

“What do you mean ?” asked the girl, with grave eyes." "She was looking at him from under level brows; her face was grave and open..." There he saw the sister of Gregory, the girl with the gold-red hair, cutting lilac before breakfast, with the great unconscious gravity of a girl. The...

Re: Chapter 11 discussion, "...the rich have always objected to being governed at all."all

About to go to sleep so I will have to get back to the question tomorrow but saw the heading and had to comment . While I was reading this section the thought of a Chesterton vs Ayn Rand cage match jumped into my head

Re: Who or What is Sunday?

The only thing they can compare him to is the universe. The paticular universe they are inhabiting is an absurd dream. With each twist in the plot the world seems more absurd until finaly Sunday reveals himself as the man in the dark room. I think what they go through is a kind of baptisim into the ...

1) explain how human beings as the successful top species in the food chain, successfully meeting every environmental challenge which means each evolutionary advance has been successful, come to have their brains hardwired to receive and process spiritual phenomena if spiritual phenomena is non-exi...

Sonomon

I'm not asking this to be nasty but am genuinely curious as to the definitions/history/author/origin, take your pick, of these two terms "the Gospel of Humanity is here and the Celestial Torah Christianity"

Re: Asking for a logical reason for atheist/mythicist fear of spiritual revelation

Perfection? No, that's an ideal that I don't think is achievable. But you're mostly right. What argument do you have against my points? Mock contempt? Do you doubt that we will make progress in understanding the human genome? Do you doubt that we will manipulate it? Our genes will change, that's fo...

Re: Asking for a logical reason for atheist/mythicist fear of spiritual revelation

So is theistic side in this forum claiming that life is meaningless or purposeless without a god validating the value of an act? Not trying to group you guys together. I'm sure there will be varied stances about this question.

Re: Ch. 2 - The Secret of Gabriel Syme

Loved this chapter! I wondered why Syme was so cool. He didn't seem to be upset or in fear. I wonder how wise it was to reveal who he was before he got out of that creepy place. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the book. I don't really want to read ahead because it's more enjoyable...
