Hard time understanding the news
<t>I enjoy reading the news more than watching it but have noticed a lot of news articles either leave out background information or lack clarity. <br/> <br/> I'll not go into how distracting ads are on news websites except to note I've gone to using text only versions of most news sites to avoid th...

Re: What book would you recommend that no one else seems to have read?
<t>Makes me curious if the recommendations are paid adverts or ranked by reviews. It's a trend now to beg for reviews, not earn them. Case in point. My own work gets read but seldom reviewed because I don't beg people to review it. Oddly, I do have readers who find my stuff. How? I guess some minima...

Re: The Great Gatsby
I just downloaded a collection of his shorts the other day. I was very surprised to learn that he was the author of Benjamin Button! Here's one my favorites: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernice_Bobs_Her_Hair I got into his writing in the late '90s and started out reading his short stories. He's o...

Re: The Great Gatsby
You sound like me when people learn I don't enjoy reading Shakespeare. Personally, I feel Fitzgerald was a short story author at heart. He published many and got paid good money for them too. Seems I read somewhere he got paid up to $900.00 in 1920s currency for a short story no longer than ten page...

Re: Writing for its own sake
I do think writers need to gather up at times to share their work. It's one thing to share links on social media and another to actually know the mind behind those links. In regards to writing for free, I do this. On occasion I send work off to magazines, but most of the time I simply add my stories...

Re: Rationality - Steven Pinker - Release in Sept 2021
This looks like an interesting book. I noticed Gate's name. His appears on lots of conspiratorial podcasts thumbnails. Pinker rejects the cynical cliché that humans are simply irrational--cavemen out of time saddled with biases, fallacies, and illusions. I haven't read the book, but I agree that hum...

job and been very busy Exact reason I've not been active on the site. Plus, a friend who writes deep fantasy fiction sent me their book to read. It's a thousand pages of really detailed writing. They're cool and in no rush as the series is already out, but I feel bad for not being able to get into ...
