Re: Is the Novel in Decline?
When you refer to a 'novel', what do you mean? I ask because I consider a novel to include sci-fi and fantasy works in novel form,as opposed to shorts. Good question. In the traditional sense, the novel is viewed as something so challenging to read it requires continuous study to grasp its true mea...

Re: Is the Novel in Decline?
This is an older post, but I wanted to reply. I don't think the novel's in decline as much as I feel a lot of new writers begin their writing journey doing what is popular. I know I did. When I started out writing, novels were still a big deal and self-publishing meant going through a vanity press o...

Re: Ch. 6 - 10: Dracula - by Bram Stoker
The Wikipedia page on Bram Stoker is fascinating and detailed. He was an Irish Protestant who became a prominent London theatre manager, and wrote a number of novels. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bram_Stoker Thanks. I checked out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bram_Stoker#Beliefs_and_philosophy and...

Re: Ch. 6 - 10: Dracula - by Bram Stoker
I got to thinking about the oceanic voyage of Dracula going to England. My guess is he traveled as follows: Departed by Black Sea. Passed through Bosporus Strait into Sea of Marmara. Entered Aegean Sea. Navigated the Mediterranean Sea. Exited via the Strait of Gibraltar. Sailed up by Portugal. Enter...

Re: Are there chapter threads?
I've seen this a lot while beta reading. When it happens, I section the book off by page count. However, if there's no preferred edition, a group might agree to break the book into sections using specific sentences as stop points.

Re: Ch. 6 - 10: Dracula - by Bram Stoker
Could Dracula perhaps be a symbol of foreign influence, or more directly, immigrants having a disruptive and destructive influence on English society? He is invading their society and bringing the utmost in darkness and despair. This is a really good question, and I've thought about it for a few da...

Well that's a shame since it seems from the following comments that you have a lot to offer. Thanks for the acknowledgement. I feel the same towards your commentary. I am on the fence about this. Fact is, people are not going to read what they do not want to read. But what is good is that authors t...

Re: Ch. 1 - 5: Dracula - by Bram Stoker
Not jumped into a serious book discussion on here before, but I been following this forum and refreshing myself with the book. What stands out to me is how the story rockets off when Jonathan Harker begins to feel a prisoner. It's a lonesome feeling as he's very far from home. Things get even more d...

Re: Do you like Horror movies?
I'm not a fan of horror films, but they seem to come in two variety. One is the slasher/torture kind of horror that I can't stomach to watch. The other is the psychological kind, I can watch the psychological kind as long as it's about the story and not the violence. For example, I've never seen any...
