Re: Was Gerald Massey a 19th Cent. Cuckoo Banana-Bird or Was Jesus Volguus Zildrohar lord of the Sebouil

It is like the Mad Hatters Tea Party in this thread. Stah constantly maintains black and blue swear on the bible that he did not say what is plain before us in the thread, while flann has this weird vendetta against science, suggesting the method of use of evidence is totally bizarre. They should s...

Re: Was Gerald Massey a 19th Cent. Cuckoo Banana-Bird or Was Jesus Volguus Zildrohar lord of the Sebouil

I don't think I've ever heard anyone claim absolutely that Jesus was a myth. The argument is that Jesus could have been a myth. We're sort of splitting hairs between Jesus was a myth or was an obscure man on which the Christian myth was later grafted. The problem is that you and Flann believe that ...

No Flann, you don’t get it. Naturalistic presuppositions, which inform the coherence of all modern knowledge, cannot be proved, but are assumed a priori, as necessary conditions of experience. We cannot prove the universe exists but we assume it as an axiom that makes elegant sense. Science assumes...

Re: Was Gerald Massey a 19th Cent. Cuckoo Banana-Bird or Was Jesus Volguus Zildrohar lord of the Sebouil

1. A man walked on water, was born from a virgin and came back from the dead. 2. Old stories evolved from one culture to the next. Which is bizarre? This thread is all about aggressively attacking the second statement, in order to defend the first. According to astrotheology the twelve named apostl...

The astrotheologists are free to believe whatever they like however bizarre. I've provided some counter arguments and evidence against this theory and am happy enough to leave it at that. As a related matter of interest the Robert Price vs Bart Ehrman debate "Did Jesus Exist" is now availa...

Re: Gerald Massey

Mr Holding spectacularly failed to notice what Massey says about sources. In the short book that Holding says has no references, at the top of the first page Massey indicated where his references can be found. You can read it in the opening post here. As far as I can see J.P.Holding did not say tha...

Re: Gerald Massey

You say there are sources cited in footnotes. Be specific in response to Holding's critique and give the citation from the primary source Massey is supposedly citing in each of the cases Holding raises. I showed that his assertion of a lack of references is the easiest thing to refute. The fact tha...

Re: Was Gerald Massey a 19th Cent. Cuckoo Banana-Bird or Was Jesus Volguus Zildrohar lord of the Sebouil

The real reason Gerald Massey was despised and rejected by Christians was precisely because he did use primary sources. The Christians of his time did not like that, so they bullied the Egyptology profession not to study this material. The Egypt primary sources studied by Massey provide many simila...

Re: Genesis 1 and the Creationism Debate

Although the book has its sharp polemical attack on Creationist claims about Genesis 1 (stating they are hypocritical and disingenuous) there is nonetheless a sympathetic strain to the book as well. Since my expertise is in biblical studies, I feel that one of the reasons that Creationists/Fundamen...
