Re: What are you currently reading?

Hi Penelope, your story about Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance reminded me that I picked this up nearly 20 years ago...and it has probably been in the same spot in that bookcase since! I have alot of WANT TO READ AT SOME POINT books though most are not this old. I might just rearra...

Re: What are you currently reading?

I recently received a Kindle and for the first time since school I am reading more than one book at a time. It's interesting to have so many characters rattling around and picking the favorite of the hour to get back to. Borrowing books from the University system puts pressure on with the 7 day loan...

Re: MAY: The Animals

I have come to understand why tesson wanted to truly experience Siberia which means spending time there during winter. The daily work to stay warm and fed, the hikes that challenge mentally and physically, the time to tackle Kierkegaard and Camus - all strong and hardy stuff. He not only survived th...

Re: MAY: The Animals

OK, my first laugh is with his comment on the best way to kill a moment is to feel obliged to take a picture! I've been to 4 weddings this year with #5 coming up the end of December. The camera flashes during the ceremony are so rude in their intrusion, nothing should take notice away from the cerem...

Re: MARCH: Time

Heledd, I also just downloaded Leaves of Grass and look forward to reading it for the first time, although I think this is a book I should read in book format rather than an ebook. I was surprised to read that Moscow is selling forests to the Chinese, deforestation in Siberia was something I had nev...

Re: APRIL: The Lake

I’ve read almost to the end of April and can’t get a handle on this author. It is an interesting idea, and while one that I will never try, see it as a worthy challenge to any healthy nature lover. I will find my old copy of Leaves of Grass to reread, glad that Mr. Tesson gave me a reminder of its g...

Re: MARCH: Time

Started last night and already wondering how serious Mr. Tesson is about this goal. It seems he thinks this is going to be a bit of a lark based on such comments as "experiencing an existence centered on simple gestures...fishing for my dinner". Living during a winter in Siberia is a far c...

Re: In the love of books!

we almost took a side trip to Giza when visiting Istanbul, but there was so much to see and do in Turkey. I will have to make due with my brother's pictures of his trip. I think tourism will take a long time to rebound in Egypt. It is shocking to see such a seemingly stable vibrant country in so muc...
