I am starting to look at classic books that I haven't read. This one has really caught my eye. The Secret Garden: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_Garden I think this is one of the classics that everybody. There is something innocent and yet so much magical in this book. I haven't read it but...

First let me say, I finally got my copy and started reading it right away. Second, on the quote. I would have to agree. As I said before it is like he is trying to justify his actions. But when in reality, we are beginning to see him (well, me anyway) as a sad, sad man. Case in point, Humbert was ta...

I have been reluctant in joining this thread for a couple of reasons. I know we all want something that will spark conversation and discussion, but some of the suggestions are so deep that I get a headache just thinking about them. Yes, feel free to call me stupid if you like. I know I probably shou...

I believe it is all in the eye of the behold. I know that is a terrile cliche but it is true. While my sister adores most modern art, I don't really care for it. My sister and I (through the grace of our mother) have such a strong passion for art. Even though we both have some pieces that we do like...

I would have to say that this was an interesting chapter on what emotions, states of mind, and moods are. It truly makes me rethink some of my actions based on those "feelings".

I found that the Poe Annabel interesting because of its similarity to Lolita. It seems to bring everything into focus where Humbert is just giving you a rough outline. I am not to sure how old they were supposed to be in their trist. I was guess 14 because of his description on how clumsy and unexpe...

I just read the excerpts (still don't have my copy just yet). Having the knowledge of the end in mind, it seems that Mr. Humbert is trying to explain away his infatuation with Lolita. It seems he is trying to say it isn't his fault because he had a devasting relationship with Annabel that was not en...
