No, she doesn't. And she doesn't explain how within the fantasy realms Orlando changes. Unusual, but maybe she had a method.

Okay, I am partially into this chapter. So here we have Orlando become a woman. Woolf's statement that the changing of sex alters future but not identity follows her matter of fact statement that "Orlando was indeed a woman". But does Orlando's identity really stay stagnant? I mean, he bec...

Edward Lear

In Kids Lit at the start of the year, we studied Edward Lear for one week, particularly his limericks and the Yonghy Bonghy Bo which is really, really sad.

Does anyone have any thoughts on Lear? When I get a chance I will post up the Yonghy Bonghy Bo.

I'm not sure, because its classed as fictional biography, or at least thats what I could class it as. Perhaps she meant it to fall under both?

I don't know. I learnt that she wrote it as a testimony to Vita Sackville-West. But I can't remember more about that. As a mock biography, she's been bold in its execution, because its not conventional like many biographies.

Gender in Enid Blyton

Next year in Semester Two [starts June] I am starting Honours [If I get in hehe I still need something signed!] and I am doing mine in English, in Children's Literature. My topic is: How do Enid Blyton's books represent gender roles to children? Any thoughts? Keep in mind its just gender so nothing ...

So moving on a little - the poet could be his muse or Shakespeare. The good old bard gets a mention a little later on by name. What do you make of the time transitions Orlando goes through, making him age at unusual rates? Perhaps it is a part of his need to find himself, because by this point he is...

Good point. What I thought about the poet was that maybe it was Shakespeare - if we consider the time that Orlando is in currently. Shakespeare as regarded as the best poet of the time, upon meeting Orlando, dislikes Orlando's work possibly.

*Must finish chapter two*

Rose, I can understand your confusion. Woolf did write every novel very differently - so some don't make as much sense as others. Good point on the mock biography. Those who have a copy in book form may have noticed the bibliography at the back which Woolf purposely placed there to make it like a bi...
