Re: The Sound and the Fury, section 4, April 8, 1928

I am struck by the difference in writing moving from the 1st person to the 3rd person. The first three chapters seem more limited because they are told from each individual perspective, I think. Taking a step back in the 4th chapter has a completely different feel. There are dynamics that are not no...

Re: Ch. 5: The Illusion of America

So, I finished the book. The last chapter was especially depressing, I thought. :( It is a pretty negative view of the country. I was sort of wondering what other people thought. I am especially interested to know what people who consider themselves more conservative thought. It seems to be a book t...

Re: What happened to my post?

Midnight Coder said that we lost some posts in conversion. :( He said that after yesterday we should be fine though. I lost some posts too. One of the unfortunate hazards of using a computer.

One of my favorite english professors once told me, when I would say, "I don't get it!", he would say, you don't need to get it. Let the words, and the language flow over you, take it all in. Appreciate the writing, then go back a second time, and you will find you have gotten it all alon...

I am enjoying this book a lot more now that I have a context for it. I found out that Mrs. Dalloway is also a stream of conciousness book. I loved that book. It is written differently though. Mrs. Dalloway is from the 3rd person perspective whereas this is told from the 1st person. It is actually ki...

Looking at the cliff notes it looks like this chapter is a day in the life of Quentin. It is his thought process. It makes more sense now. I know when I think I do not always finish thoughts and sometimes have impressions or memories that appear. Actually there is a name for it. Stream-of-Conciousne...

Ok, I am having a hard time with this book. The 2nd chapter seemed like it would flow differently but it is still pretty choppy. Sentences are cut off a lot. What do people think?
