Re: IV. The Transformation of the Medieval Era
I found the chapter on the Scientific Revolution really exciting. Tarnas writes this section like all of these different people were putting together pieces of a puzzle until the Newtonian-Cartesian cosmology was complete. It kind of reminded me of my studies in college. So many of these philosophie...

Ok. That makes more sense. Not "porno" "pomo" which is newspeak for post-modern.

Re: Ch. 1 - Six fingers and four breasts
Really? I mean, I know there are references to sex but I do not think it is anything compared to American movies. Who classified it as a porno?I'm glad nobody told me it had been classified as 'porno'

I think so too. There is just a lot of backlash from people who want to keep things the way they have always been. I would love to see the Roman Catholic church, as a whole, embrace the ordination of women before I die. We will see...In the coming times the sexes will be equal.

Re: Ch. 13 - The Context of Our Character, Part I
It's been a while now since I read the chapter. I recall that in at least one condition the difference in cheating was not just significant but dramatic. Yes, there was one instance where that happened, but most of the differences were a few percentage points. I don’t know maybe that is a huge diff...

Re: 1. In The Beginning
First off, I just have a silly comment to make on the fact that I found it highly amusing that the serpent's name was Crawly. I think that is hilarious, too. The prologue is great. I really like this line: "They sat in embarrassed silence..." That just seems so amusing, an angel and a dem...

Re: Ch. 1 - Six fingers and four breasts
Within the first few pages of this novel, I was hooked. There is a mysterious feel about it that makes me want to read on. Murakami is a good story teller, I can see the foundation he is forming for the rest of the novel, and I suspect it will be full of surprises. I agree, Suzanne, this is a good ...

Re: Ch. 13 - The Context of Our Character, Part I
I did not totally buy these tests that he ran on the students. Why would one assume that students were cheating based on the fact that there was a tiny rise in right answers? I am not saying that there were not students who cheated, but I am wondering why we should just assume the rise was because s...

Re: why god is often thought of as a male figure
What difference does it make? It makes a huge difference. If God is like you, then you must be pretty important. And that affects who gets power in politics, in religious institutions, law, language. Why do you think it is so important to Fundamentalist Christians that God is seen as “He” or “Fathe...
