Re: Hi, I'm ConanLee
ConanLee, I'm sorry that I had to go soon after you entered the chat room last night. Last night was only my second time chatting. The first time, I felt a little lost trying to keep up with several conversations going on at once. Since I stayed for awhile last night I became more comfortable with i...

Re: Hi, I'm ConanLee
ConanLee, I guess that I am the first to welcome you! I am fairly new to booktalk myself. I have enjoyed it so far. It is a good place to connect with like-minded individuals. What have you written about?

infective memes
Any speculations on what makes some memes "more infective than others"? What makes a meme good at getting copied from one brain to another? What "inherent properties" would be "reasonable enough" to explain their success at replicating? Dawkins touches on this (p. 304+)...

Re: Hi From UK
PeterDF, Welcome! It seems that our interests are very similar. I too have read Dawkins, Goodall, De Waal, and Diamond(including The Third Chimpanzee, as you suggested in another thread). I am going to read Pinker's The Blank Slate. I am a member of GAP(Great Ape Project). That is where I received t...

Re: Welcome
Kostya, I'm back from vacation. I was gone for a few days visiting family and friends up north. I talked religion a bit with a family member who is Catholic. She is conflicted about her beliefs. I told her that she should read Selfish Gene to get another perspective about the meaning of life. She sa...

The following is an excerpt from an article by David Suzuki. There are several interesting discussions that can follow from it(DNA studies, chimp classification, origins and spread of HIV, ethical implications). I would like to know what you think about this... "Earth's great apes...share more ...

Re: Hamiete's Introduction
Hamiete, Welcome! I'm new too. I have read 1984 and Animal Farm by Orwell. I remember Animal Farm more because I re-read it a few years ago. Both were required reading in school. Both were great. Since everyone is talking about 1984, I may just read it again too. I haven't read either of the other t...
