Re: Coronavirus

I think some people are trapped in a vortex of viewing everything in terms of hidden sin and lurking evil. It reminds me of Dante's Inferno where hell is the state of being eternally immersed in nothing but violence, fraud, greed, treachery, etc. It must surely be hellish to see the world like this.

Re: Coronavirus

There's plenty of crazy everywhere these days. I've seen Facebook posts from people who really believe there is a potential UV light treatment that can be applied inside the lungs. I read an article yesterday about the company behind this, Aytu BioScience. They claim to have the treatment technology...

Re: Coronavirus

Just 30 minutes after I posted the link about hopeful signs of remdesivir being effective, I read the articles on how the clinical trial results in China are a bust. Oh well, there's still the next promising treatment proposed by our stable genius. I'm looking now at setting up a wading pool full of...

Re: Coronavirus

Seems to me as though Trump is afflicted with Attention Deficit Disorder. He has no filter, and just says whatever is on his mind at any given moment. The only reflection he can muster is to consider what is happening immediately in his surrounding environment - hence his preference for speaking to ...

Re: The media is out of hand now

I'm considering dropping my subscription to the New York Times precisely because of the overt sensationalism. The Old Grey Lady has become somewhat of a Scary Screaming Harpy. There are still many good articles, but it seems I find my way to them by way of another blog e.g. Ritholtz.com or RealClear...

Re: Coronavirus

It's interesting that the daily reported case statistics out of China and South Korea have fallen very sharply. Both China and South Korea took aggressive action in terms of lockdowns for China and testing/tracking for South Korea. But the virus is still active in the densely populated cities of bot...

Re: What are some novels that depict loneliness, social isolation and alienation in the main character?

A novel by John Barth, "The End of the Road", is about alienation. It's one of his early novels, and it depicts a man who finds the everyday trappings of life to be shallow and uninspiring. It's been a long time since I read it, but I remember it's worth reading as precursor to Barth's lat...
