Re: Periodicals about Books in general?
I rely a lot on the New York Times Book Review. It gives enough information on content to let me have a good idea if I want to persue getting the book. Also, I read the Atlantic Monthly reviews. This is a good question and I'll be interested in seeing what other people use. There may be a source out...

Re: Castles and tents
The Ellis article is interesting with the exception of IQ correlating with future success. I had professors who lectured over and over that IQ only predicts success in school. Maybe that thinking has changed now. I too have left the Bible project as I found myself responding in an emotional way inst...

"but to be legit---" I know a scholar of the Kabbalah who converted and is highly regarded by the Jewish community. Don't mean to sound argumentative, and hope I don't,and may have read more into the statement then was intended. But, back to the Bible. Can anyone tell me the flood story th...

vAgabond,
You have hit on an idea that is currently plaguing psychologists. The mind/body question has now been updated to be the mind/body/consciousness question. No one, as yet, has come up with a definition of consciousness that the APA can agree on, so you are hardly alone in being perplexed.

The idea of humans living shorter lives is not just a Christian perspefctive.
The Hebrew interpretation has lives reduced because God was ticked off.
"God shortens human life out of displeasure" (Harper Colins, 1993).

Re: Old Testament - Genesis (1 of 66)
have found a source that explains the "mishmash" of Genesis. This is from the Harper Collins Study Bible (1993): "Genesis has four movements: the primordial history (chs.1-11), the Abraham cycle (12.1-25.18), the Jacob cycle (25.19-36.43) and the saga of Joseph and his brothers (chs. ...

Re: Old Testament - Genesis (1 of 66)
A local minister told me, of the first two creation stories presented, the first is a poetic rendition, the second is a straight narrative. He suggested they be read aloud so the differences become clearer. Found that helps. Understand there are 4 creation stories told in all. Am still trying to fig...

I'll have to google the topic since I'm not familiar with post-Kolberg studies.
