I have no idea what category Medusa would go under, but what's the original story of Medusa called?

Now that I'm in college (actually, I have been for about 5 semesters) they don't really seem to care about informing you on taking care of your books. Are there any conventions that focus on sci-fi/fantasy books? Or sci-fi/fantasy stuff in general, and just happen to have hundreds of authors going there and the like?
