Re: The most adorable thing ever. Period.
Gorgeous! Kittens are (nearly) always adorable. Makes me wish i'd had a video camera years ago. We got 2 kittens from a friend's cat's litter. They were adorable, but grew up of course. We were about to get them desexed (5 months old)when we found out they were both pregnant already. (Early develope...

Re: What are some of your favourite Science Fiction books?
I like Heinlein's Friday. It's interesting how well he described the social backlash against genetic tampering so many years before it was possible. The attitudes he describes about genetically improved humans are parallel to today's society's attitudes to GM crops. Plus, he writes really kickass fe...

Re: Young Earth Theory put to rest!
I've been following this discussion with interest and some amazement. I have friends who are devout Christians who believe genesis is a "teaching story" but I don't think I've ever met anyone who took it "literally". I've seen alot of the attitude on American TV shows and in the ...

The Cat Who... Lillian J. Braun
Has anyone read The Cat Who... series by Lillian Jackson Braun. I stumbled across them by accident several years ago and have been hunting them down ever since. I really enjoy the "soft" mystery and the hint of supernaturalness of Koko without it becoming fantasy. But, I've just read the l...

Re: How do you arrange your bookshelf?
I think the follow on question is how do you arrange your bookcases? Bookcase: - in dining room with the reference stuff, dictionaries, atlas, street directories - in lounge room with (lots of) kids books ranging from Sesame Street's ABC to Harry Potter - in study with gardening, animal, pedagogy, f...

Re: How do you arrange your bookshelf?
The bottom shelf, however, is for library books only. Yep, I need an entire shelf. Between me and 4 kids we actually have a small "library" bookcase. At approx. 10 books each, it's full. Kinda weird to see adult sci-fi, next to factual science texts, next to juv. fiction, next to ...

Re: What Books Do You Dislike?
At least half the books I had to read through High School, including, but not limited to... Of Mice and Men Summer of the Seventeenth Doll Treasure Island Animal Farm Lord of the Flies (To make it worse, teenage daughter now reading it for school. Can't they find something better by now?) about half...

Re: What are some of your favourite Science Fiction books?
Good point, I guess I missed Dune...I thought the first three were brilliant but I think, like many publishers, it became a cash cow. They tell me the recent one written by hi son (name escapes me) is very good.... You're right, Dune, Dune Messiah & Children of Dune were great. Heretics and God...

Careful when you get Stranger. Was originally published with a different (and horrible) ending, where Michael isn't "grokked." They republished with Heinlein's original ending many years later. I much prefer the (later) unedited version.

Re: What are some of your favourite Science Fiction books?
Loved Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. Literally couldn't put it down. Teenage daughter gave me first book to read one afternoon....finished it 3 am following morning. Was captivated. More fantasy than sci-fi. Favourite sci-fi has to be Asimov and Heinlein. Asimov just had such creative, unexpecte...
