Re: Working definition of faith
Quote:You're more likely to find that I just don't know how to give an adequate answer to some questions, either because I can't figure out the best way to express what I think, or because I haven't yet decided exactly what I think.Ditto that with regard to my questions. I can't get a firm grasp on ...

A priest and an atheist sit down to Thanksgiving Dinner
This isn't a set up for a joke. My mother, ever ready to pick up any stray for a holiday meal, invited a Roman Catholic priest visiting from Uganda to Thanksgiving. Just thought some people on this forum would enjoy that piece of info. If you have any questions for a Ugandan priest, pass them on. My...

Re: Change of Heart
Looks like Toys for Tots has changed its mind and are accepting the Jesus dolls.I don't think we have to worry about any little Jewish kids getting the dolls though. It looks like they are going to targeted recipients.

Themes (spoilers to end of book)
[This isn't about any one specific part of the book so I figured I should start a new thread. I hope that's o.k. It's hard for me to write about individual parts of a book, I tend to always relate it backwards and forwards.]I'm not sure if anyone else, besides Mad, is reading this story but it's bee...

Contingencies of faith?
Since this discussion has now diverted to a more general topic, I'm hoping no one will mind if I throw out another question on faith. This is directed more to the theists. How did you get faith? Or perhaps the question should be how did you recognize your faith? I've been considering the issue of th...

Toys for Tots rejects Jesus dolls
Here's the linkJust thought this might be interesting to some. It's kind of weird though. If you think of Christmas as celebrating Jesus's birth, why wouldn't a Jesus doll be an acceptable present... Is it because it's a military effort? Edited by: irishrosem at: 11/14/06 6:00 pm

In addition to feeling cheated, she must also feel she has grossly wasted a large chunk of her life. If she spent much of her free time celebrating, participating in, and reading about her god and her religion, and if a large part of her community life has involved her religion, where does she turn ...

Re: Concerning Chris O'Connor...
Chris, I'm going to use you as inspiration to shed the extra pounds I've been carrying around the past couple months. Also, although a lot of the thinking goes against weighing yourself everyday, I've read of those who think it beneficial. I can't give you any citations, but the common argument for ...
