Re: Questions for Richard Logan

The things you mention were not all known by the CG at the time; and they were investigating the loss of a ship and passengers, not conducting a criminal investigation at the time H was testifying. Then abruptly Terry Jo was found and H left, no conclusions having been drawn yet. If police (not only...

Re: Questions for Richard Logan

Yes. There were many people suspicious of Harvey concerning the death of his wife in the car crash, not just a few. Also, there is a lot more detail (e.g., testimony from witnesses that make clear that one crash was intentional) about the suspicious loss of his two previous boats than appears in the...

Re: Ch. 2 - The Adventurer

Entitlement is an excellent label to apply to Harvey, as it fits with one who likely was a supreme narcissist. And the book does note the parallel with Ted Bundy. Rather than guilt as part of Harvey's motive for suicide, I see more self-loathing and shame. The only thing he had really had going for ...

Re: Ch. 2 - The Adventurer

I very much appreciate and respect the conversation about Harvey. He was a Golden Boy in the eyes of a great many over many years, starting with the doting aunt who raised (and spoiled?) him, women who idolized him (including most of his ex-wives who refused to speak ill of him even after the Bluebe...

Re: Ch. 2 - The Adventurer

The brevity of that chapter was an editor's decision, not mine! But it is true that harvey's character will always be less than completely knowable. The picture of him as a model was chosen to show both his attractive physique, vanity and narcissism. No; I didn't think of him as tarzan-like, but it ...

Re: Ch. 1 - Sailing Dreams

Faith comes up most explicitly in a later chapter. (I don't want to short circuit things for readers.)

Re: Ch. 1 - Sailing Dreams

Tere's youth helped her survive, as did her faith, optimism, and unflappable temperament. But she continued alone for many years and had to continue to be strong. Telling her story has helped her gain closure where closure was forever unreachable.

Re: Ch. 1 - Sailing Dreams

Certainly a big part of the horror of the story is the randomness of the terrible things that happened to an innocent family and a girl at an innocent age in an age of innocence for our country-- this was before we had become numbed to mass murders and the targeting of innocents by terrorists. Incid...

Re: Ch. 1 - Sailing Dreams

I look forward to discussing our book with the members of this forum. I worked on this incredible true story for over twenty years, having first met Tere Duperrault in the late 1980s. Meeting her was one of the most powerful coincidences of my life: I had been studying the psychology of solitary ord...
