and it's all the more remarkable a book because it is written by a survivor of the camps themselves. Only a survivor could dare to say such things like “I would like to live a little bit longer in this beautiful concentration camp.”

not arbitrary at all actually. In the intro to the book, Boxall clearly spells out that the purpose of the list is to chart the development of the artform of the novel worldwide. Each novel has a place in that development which each book description elaborates on.

I don't really know why but I get bored in films really quickly. I don't in novels although they take a much longer time to do the same thing. Maybe it's cos my mind is continually engaged in a book but not in a film.

I've been reading on a Sony PRS505 for years and love it. I travel a lot so this is an exceptionally convenient device because it is small, light, has long battery life and I don't get eye strain from the screen.
