Re: Are there any truly great novels from the twenty first century?
oh dear me... do they really qualify as "truly great" novels? I know you haven't read them geo, but the five I've read certainly don't match up for me. I think a truly great novel has to capture the spirit of the age well enough to project the reader into it. Thus, I have a few which may b...

Re: A closed door book?
that's a Japanese novel by Keigo Higashino. むかし僕が死んだ家 which could be translated as The House where I died long ago or My old House is Dead
anyway, as for closed doors novels, Coetzee's In the Heart of the Country takes place in one house and The Shining also comes to mind.

It's such an important part of Chinese culture in that it has influenced so much later art including...

thanks for sharing. I know nothing about paganism so I'd be interested to hear whether what you are reading does fit your beliefs.

Re: 1001 books?
Hi Suzanne... yes, it's some challenge and pursuing it has totally opened my eyes to areas of literature I'd never have discovered. There have been some clunkers, but on the whole, the books off the list been very good reads. I don't read them in the order they were written, no. I read them as and w...
