Re: Sorry Ladies

Well, she's my wife now, and I happen to find her adorable and cute. I never told her her poetry was terrible, I told her that I didn't find poetry very interesting. I explained that my time spent going to poetry slams was my way of hanging out with her because I think she's a doll. I told her poetr...

Re: Sorry Ladies

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to rile people up, I just can't stand poetry. I have friends that write it and go to poetry slams or whatever the hell you call them, and I've made honest efforts to get into it, but again, in my opinion, I think it's all junk. One of my really good friends writes poetry, a...

Re: Sorry Ladies

Far too seriously.... I've pointed out women that I've read that are amazing -- Flannery O'Conner being one. I'm not opposed to reading female authors, what I'm saying is that all I've found by them lately has been drivel. Of course I've read Frankenstein, but like Harper Lee it's her one great book...

Re: What music are you currently listening to?

Melancholy Hill - Gorillaz Is that from their new album? I have but I'm not familiar enough to know the names of the songs yet, but the album is pretty good. I think the Gorillaz are amazing anyway.... Depeche Mode's Playing The Angle just came on. I think this is their best album since Violator...

Re: Sorry Ladies

I've tried Joyce Carol Oates -- the book about the ghost stories, I cant' think of the title off the top of my head. I finished it, but it didn't blow my mind. Do contemporary male authors fare better? I think they do. Just my opinion. Caleb Carr's two books "The Alienist" and "Angel ...

Re: Sorry Ladies

Well, it's good to know I'm not alone. I have read some Atwood -- The Handmaiden's Tale -- back in college for a female lit class. I can't remember if I liked it or not. Maybe I should go back and read that one again. A perfect example is the book "War" by Sebastian Junger and "They F...

Re: What music are you currently listening to?

It was on one season of Rescue Me and I was blown away. I immediately went out and bought that album, Rubber Factory and Magic Potion.

A totally different style of music, but The Von Bondies are pretty freaking good to. Pawn Shoppe Heart and their latest album are great back to front....

Sorry Ladies

I know this is going to get me in trouble, but I'm a glutton for punishment. Before I go any further, let me state for the record, I love women, and while what I'm about to say is going to make me look like a chauvinistic slob -- all I can do is assure you that I'm not, and beg forgiveness from all ...

Re: What music are you currently listening to?

My favorite song by them is "I'll be your man" I was bummed when I saw it wasn't on the DVD, but it's still fantastic. I'd love to see them, but it would have to be at a smaller venue, and I think they are too big now... Right now, Jerry Lee Lewis "Live at the Star Club" just cam...

Re: Reading Bestsellers

[quote=meliamom]I agree about the novel being mostly hype. And, like you, I was on the waiting list at the library for a few weeks before I was able to read it. I'm glad I didn't buy it. I think bestseller lists are just that: a look at what the average American consumer is buying. I've been disappo...
