Re: Am I an athiest?
I would like to steal a moment from all your lives, simply to say that I've spent the last half hour laughing heartily at the contents of this thread, and to thank you all for a mirthful morning. Especially Katelyn, you've got courage and I think you've been lucky to have a family you can have faith...

Re: Hitchens vs. Hannity on God
His argument falls into the "either/or" category. Either god created the universe or energy was created out of nothing. Yet these are only two of many possible hypotheses (not including those we may not be aware of) This argument is basically paramount to the following: There's a cookie mi...

Re: Believing in...something.

I think I can help you but could I ask you some questions first? What's made you want to change to ...

Re: Fiction suggestions needed for Jan./Feb. discussion
I started reading this book over the weekend. Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell: A Novel by Susanna Clarke You know, I just checked out the amazon reviews out of curiosity... I was a bit wary of another vampire thriller or harry potter at first... but I think I'll add this to my queue, it seems fu...

Re: The Road Pages 1-33
The relationship between the man and the boy is so empathic and heart-warming. It's the most colorful thing in this grey and ashen wasteland of a world. And it's surprising to me how McCarthy does this; he's distilled the relationship to the very foundations of what it is. There's no hugging, no jok...

Re: McCarthy's writing style in "The Road"
<t>Giselle I like your comparison to old movies. As I pondered on the visual nature of the narrative I had the feeling it was thoroughly un-cinematic despite the visuals. His actions as muted staccato movements make a lot of sense to me.<br/> And I think you're right in saying that the style may be ...
