Re: Full Dark, No Stars

I'm with you there! Full Dark, No Stars is the first book in a long while I just can't put down. It's got that overpowering "what's next?" feeling on every page. I'm on the last story now and I already wish there was more to read. One of Stephen King's best in a long, long time. Howard She...

Full Dark, No Stars

I'm a little more than halfway through Stephen King's Full Dark, No Stars and I'm reallyliking it. I'm reading this book the way I *used* to read; almost non-stop with real difficulty in stopping because I'm endlessly hooked on finding out what happens next. This could be some of Stephen King's best...

Re: Huckleberry Finn/ introduction and first thoughts

Can you all BELIEVE they are changing Huck Finn to be PC? The audacity!!! Last Sunday's 60 Minutes piece on the PC Huckleberry Finn explains everything. The explanation is not at all satisfying, though. Books are no different than paintings - once they're rendered they MUST be left alone. Howard Sh...

Re: What are you reading right now...

The cowboy stories of Andy Adams. Great stuff! "Andy Adams (May 3, 1859 – September 26, 1935) was an American writer of western fiction. Andy Adams was born in Indiana. His parents, Andrew and Elizabeth (Elliott) Adams, were pioneers. As a boy he helped with the cattle and horses on the family...

Re: What are you reading right now...

Reading The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie. Howard, I have found that I have to listen to an audio book 2-3 times. Especially if it's a new author. I used to drive for a living so it was no big deal. Now I don't have the time or patience. :D I'm in a similar situation in the sense I hav...

Re: What are you reading right now...

Here's one I'm NOT reading now:

Presumed Innocent by Scott Turow.

This is my second attempt with the audio book and it just doesn't grab me. The writing's good and I like where the plot is going but after an hour of very slow going it's just not a book for me.

Re: What are you reading right now...

Funny enough I started Crime and Punishment (during a trip to Russia, ironically) and never got to finish it as I lost my copy somewhere during my travels. I really should get back to it. I was intrigued right from the violent beginning. Dostoyevsky is a master and I owe it to myself to finish what ...
