Re: Can anyone elucidate on this please? Schrödinger

<t>One of the points I had hoped to bring out in my musical analogy was that a waveform is not something which can have a definite point-like position in the first place. It doesn't even have a precisely defined center, since the ends of it necessarily grade in. This is equally true of quantum wave ...

Re: Why Machines Will Never Beat the Human Mind

The Deep Blue experiment was a great example: that machine didn't really "play" chess. All it did was calculate all the possible games from the current position then choose a move which was part of a game in which it would win. Uhh... This is not really correct. As it happens, even Deep B...

Re: Can anyone elucidate on this please? Schrödinger

If I can figure out how to include some music clips, I'll post them here. They may make this example a lot more intuitive.

Re: Can anyone elucidate on this please? Schrödinger

OK, here goes! I am going to see if I can write a few simple songs. But I want to write them so as to completely specify the notes/"pitches" of the song, and the rhythms/durations of each note. Is this possible? To keep it simple, I will make my songs entirely out of Middle A quarter notes...

Re: Can anyone elucidate on this please? Schrödinger

Schrodinger's thought experiment was actually designed to point up a problem they were all having at the time. Namely, when--exactly--does a "probability wave" collapse into real history? Under the Copenhagen interpretation, this matter never got settled. (Reference "Wigner's Friend&q...

Re: Scale of the universe -- this is really cool

Superb! And more informational than a walk along the Rose Center Planetarium "Cosmic Pathway".

I was especially intrigued by the 7 meter earthworm. I looked it up in Guinness Book of Records, and it's true!

Re: The Case for God

I don't quite understand the purpose of a theology related to the apophatic view which considers God a mystery beyond the ability of any human language to comprehend. If God is an unknowable entity which cannot even be presumed to exist, what exactly are we talking about? Instead of calling it &quo...

Disaffected Amazon Poster

<t>Recently, Amazon's discussion forum has taken a very ominous turn towards censorship and political bias. I am hoping this place might be open to a less radicalized style of opinion sharing. But I have yet to make my way to any actual discussions. Time will tell, I guess.<br/> <br/> I didn't see t...
