Re: The Case for God

For instance, are the prayers of saints more worthy, more listenable, than your average prayer? Are they the "gold standard" of prayer? What makes one prayer more golden than another, and what makes it answerable? (In the affirmative, that is... The other answers aren't really germane, I'd...

Re: Can anyone elucidate on this please? Schrödinger

That was my experience. Where is the "somewhere else"? Does that mean I have to publish it to youtube, or something like that?

Re: The Case for God

Taking your point, I suggest that the rational thing to do would be to let go of the "100 words or less" restriction. I read the Bible, including that part. However, like that part, it doesn't exactly jump off the page and shout "I'm sensible!" It's more like a peyote vision; Ver...

Re: Seeing both sides

I watched that video, but I don't think McGrath gave any reasonable explanation of what the "ground of being" might entail. If God is presumed to act as creator, then doesn't God have to first "be" at all, to then be the creator? And in the case of the ground I stand upon, I know...

Re: Seeing both sides

About Tillich... I have a very different answer from him as to what constitutes the "ground of being". In addition, I couldn't really understand what he means by "being", in any event. Do you know? Is it like "existing"? And what is that? (The dictionary is not very use...

Re: Seeing both sides

Hey, Harry...

How many sides are there to these questions, in your opinion?

To me, it seems like there is one side per customer--and maybe a lot more than that, since our "sides" have this unfortunate habit of evolving as we grow.

Re:

Because we cannot know both a particle's position and momentum precisely at the same time does not mean a particle doesn't have position and momentum, it merely means the only methods of measurement to deduce these quantities is severely limited. Of course, this is where quantum mechanics trumps hu...

... However, it is entirely wrong to say that because we cannot know the position and direction of a particle, that the particle does not actually have a unique position and momentum. It is just that we finite creatures cannot know it. ... If, as I and others assume, the particles don't actually ha...

Re: Disaffected Amazon Poster

Another question:

Can authors discuss their own books, here? Or is that considered "hawking"? I know one or two authors who might join us if that's allowed.

Re: Disaffected Amazon Poster

Does anybody know how to attach a .mp3 file to a post?

I've tried, but it doesn't seem to work.

I just got a message "The extension mp4 is not allowed."

What extensions ARE allowed?
