Re: Lately I've been playing catch-up with my reading.
I loved the game of thrones. I really enjoy novels with a plethora of characters and several plots. I am reading City of Golden Shadow and Shadowplay by Tad Williams.

Re: Favourite short story in the horror genre.
I would love to discuss Poe or Stephen King. Unfortunately, I haven't read much Lovecraft because I find his books difficult to locate.

I agree that Philip Pullman's Dark Materials is excellent.

Re: The Stand by Stephen King
I agree that Randall Flagg is a great villain, but there are so many other fascinating characters, as well. I absolutely loved Mother Abigail. King's choice to use her as a nemesis to Flagg was genius. What could a frail old lady do against pure evil like that? The answer, defeat it with her faith a...

Re: Greeting From Chehalis, WA
Greetings. I live in a small town in rural Pennsylvania, since there is not a lot of things to do I read a lot more than I used to. I love Louisa May Alcott, recently at a used bookstore I found a collection of her short stories titled the Hidden Lousa May Alcott. I was thoroughly charmed by them. M...

Re: salutations
Someone gifted the beginning of the series to me awhile ago, but I have not yet had a chance to read them. I think I might give it a shot and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the recommendation.

I just finished War and Peace last month and absolutely loved it. I am working through it a second time taking notes. I have been a huge fan of Anna Karenina since I was in high school. War and Peace was recommended by a literature professor in college, but I found it a bit daunting. Unfortunately I...

Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe. However, a close second is Apt Pupil by Stephen King in Different Seasons.

I found this book at a local used bookstore. I love it and can't put it down. It's The Brothers of Gwynedd Quartet by Edith Pargeter. I am three quarters of the way through Sunrise in the West. It tells the story of the first Prince of Wales, Prince Llewelyn. The narrative style is true to the time ...

Re: The Other Bolyn Girl
This is definitely one of my all-time favorite pieces of historical fiction. I discovered historical fiction by Jean Plaidy, but my personal favorite author in this genre is Margaret George. (During some research, I discovered Jean Plaidy is a pen name for Victoria Holt whom writes gothic romance.) ...
