Re: Hunger Games Movie
I'm only assuming since the book is a young adult fiction book they'll dial back the action and violence (not that the book was violent). But the fact is the book is about kids killing kids and I'm worried they'll come up short on the tension by playing up the romance in order to bring the young gir...

Best Villain From Recent Fiction?
My roommate and I were having a discussion/debate about the fact that there is a lack of really good villains in modern fiction. Of course, the whale in Moby Dick, Dracula, Professor Moriarty, Jekyll/Hyde etc. are legendary villains. Has modern fiction lost the ability to produce a truly evil villai...

Re: Is Anyone On Twitter? Twitter Book Club?
I'm new here, but I'm on Twitter at TheGreyAmerican ^^ I just followed you! (theoriginalanna) I'm on another book discussion board and somebody there thought a Twitter book club was a good suggestion. So he started (TwBookClub) on twitter. Maybe you can follow him and let us know if you have any id...

Is Anyone On Twitter? Twitter Book Club?
Is anybody here on Twitter? I thought it would be cool if there was an online Twitter Book Club where people can discuss books 140 characters at a time. I found one but they haven't tweeted in a couple of years. So, I'm assuming it's a dead end.
Has anybody else jumped on the Twitter bandwagon?

A Rumor About Hemingway That I Hope Is True
Have any of you heard the rumor that Hemingway once bet a table of writers $10 that he could write a complete short story that consisted of only six words? When his fellow writers told him it couldn't be done, Hemingway wrote his story on a napkin and passed it around the table. Each writer handed o...

The Illustrated Man – Science Fiction For People That Don't Like Science Fiction
I just finished re-reading The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury. I hadn't read it since high school. I have fallen in love with this collection of short stories all over again. I told a friend that she should read it and she said "I don't like science fiction." Of course, Ray Bradbury is a ...

Re: Catcher and the Rye
I usually try to avoid reading too deep into the "meaning" of a book in order to explain how popular it was/is. I think the reason "Catcher" resonated with so many people is how very true Holden was written. Salinger captured exactly the way most young people feel and think at th...

Re: Fiction Book Poll
HEY! New to the board. Love this idea of a voted on discussion. You get a great idea of who will get involved. I'm a "classics" fanatic – so I had to go with The Catcher In The Rye! Such and fantastic read. LOVE IT.
