Re: What are some of your favorite fantasy books?

In really enjoyed the Dark Tower series as far as I read it, which was book 4. Well, I HATED the first book, but I was assured the series became amazing, so I persevered and it really did. I can't even say for certain which book of the ones I read is my favourite! I stopped only because there were n...

Re: What are some of your favourite Science Fiction books?

I liked Fahrenheit 451 (and Something Wicked This Way Comes , bleachededen, surprised you didn't like it!) but I wasn't as big on The Martian Chronicles - though it has been a while since I read it. I liked, but didn't love, The Left Hand of Darkness . I'd heard a lot of hype about that book but it ...

Re: What is the stupidest thing you've ever done?

Tonight I accidentally put two contact lenses into one eye. I have never done that... but I have put my glasses on while wearing my contacts and was completely confused about why everything looked so weird. My prescription is pretty strong too (-5.25) so I don't know how I didn't notice things were...

Re: What is the stupidest thing you've ever done?

Tried to reason with someone who disagreed with me on the internet. Really. God, what a pointless enterprise! I think my most recent moment of duh was when leaving the little parking garage by my work, the garage door wouldn't open. The cord that you drive over to make the door open is not very sens...

Re: Another classic science fiction show cancelled before its time.

I really hated Heroes. I watched the entire first season waiting for it to be the show it could be: one with compelling characters and a clever story. I sometimes wonder if we're so starved for good TV that we're willing to accept substandard shows because contrasted to the generic crap on TV these ...

Re: What are some of your favourite Science Fiction books?

Yeah, I like Heinlein a lot... I especially like how in his futures, part of the US has become part of Canada! Represent! I read Friday a long time ago... it was pretty interesting and made me consider what is "normal" and not normal in society. It also made me feel a secret passage out of...

Re: How do you arrange your bookshelf?

I have four bookshelves. The first I'll mention is the "TO READ" Bookshelf. I place books on it in the order in which I intend to read them. I do allow myself the option of deviating from this scheduled order. At times in my reading I will be wild & unpredictable. An example: I might ...

Re: How do you arrange your bookshelf?

I'm a little OCD and I get antsy and upset if my books are NOT organized alphabetically. As such, I have my Fiction all alphabetically, then sorted alphabetically by title except in cases of series which are sorted as if the series title is the title of the book, and then in order of the series (not...

Re: Hills Like White Elephants

I really enjoyed this short story. It was written so clearly and precisely I'm in awe. It is rare to read something so cleanly written and yet with subtlety. It reminds me of The Great Gatsby in the layered approach. On the surface it seems like a really simple little story, but as one examines the ...

Re: Books and Movies

I think, like all movies, some are good and some are bad. It is difficult for film-makers and actors who have never met you to bring to life the things you envisioned in your mind, that's true... which will always make it hard for movies to compare to beloved books. Movies I think did well as their ...
