I wander in and out. :) I'm always easy to find, regardless. ;)

Both interesting articles, though I wonder on their validity. I'd like to believe it to be true, but I think it was quite a skewed opinion article. A lot of people are hostile towards people who are different, and it can definitely impede ones ability to succeed. People who are in power or famous of...

Ralph: I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure that my gender (female) has affected my opinion of Naked Lunch very much. I do like a lot of novels and authors more aimed at men, for one thing. Also, Naked Lunch seemed to have a pretty high quotient of gay sex, which I would imagine would m...

Does it matter if it's fiction or non-fiction? Or if it's over one book or a series of many?

The first thing that jumped to my mind was Hyperion/Fall of Hyperion. Also, something like Macbeth seems apt, since it is about his rise to power and subsequent fall.

Hello Indigo, and welcome! I thought it interesting that my favourite genres are the two you describe, magic realism and cyberpunk, but I haven't read a couple of the authors you have mentioned, and read very little from a couple others. I've read nothing by Chaim Potok and Barbara Kingsolver, and v...

I tried to sing in the shower when I was younger, because everyone in movies and on television seemed so cheerful when they did it... and I know this is weird, but I hate showers. They just seem so frightfully inefficient. Turn the shower on, get the temperature right, find towels, get undressed, cl...

Currently I am reading Ten Monkeys, Ten Minutes , which is a short story collection by Peter Watts. I really like Peter Watts science fiction; in particular Starfish is one of my favourite novels. Ten Monkeys, Ten Minutes has an excerpt from Starfish as the first story, and I read it again despite t...

Re: More to the point, about me

I am not touching the Jesus discussion. Not only am I terribly uneducated on the subject, but it also seems to me to be an impossible task to determine what someone may have said thousands of years ago. If he even existed! Instead I'll address some points that seem (largely) missed in this discussio...

I didn't find Handmaid's Tale unrealistic. Different realistic, but I didn't think it was something that could never happen. Quite the opposite! I think a lot of people feel we can't err into such extreme bad situations, but it's not something that happens all at once. It's a gradual process, and on...
