Re: Did Jesus Exist - Bart Ehrman's new book
his last book was nothing more than an appeasement to his christian right. I agree. People who are not familiar with church do not comprehend how shocking the argument that Jesus did not exist can be for religious people who see Jesus as their framework of meaning and comfort. I think Ehrman wanted...

Re: Did Jesus Exist - Bart Ehrman's new book
^And what truth would that be Doulos? Lay it on us. My guess is he cannot tell you and if he does he's going to claim the bible told him so. You gonna love that circular logic. More a matter of not responding to what I assume people already know. My interest is not in argument for the sake of argum...

Re: Jan. 2004 - Tolerance vs. Respect
I attack the nonsensical claims presented to me on the basis that they are nonsense, and not rooted in any evidence to support them. If i dealt with muslims, hindus, ancestor worshipers, or wicca on a daily basis, and was continually confronted with transparently false stories presented as absolute...

Re: Do you believe in a supernatural creator, God or gods of any sort?
I don't refuse to see evidence for god, i just acknowledge all the other explanations for that evidence and realize it doesn't HAVE to be god. When other more reasonable explanations exist, which all involve perfectly ordinary, readily observed phenomena, why should i credit a magical jinn as the c...

Re: -----
Zach I don't think we can hold views to be subjective all the time . But they are always subjective. Believers in many religions would disagree with this though. If there is a creator 'God,' then there is an absolute measure greater than man. ...this is merely my subjective view of Chris' subjectiv...

Re: Pastoral Care for Atheist Clergy
This is sad. For the few christians who remain, i rejoice. NPR does an interesting series on this (http://minnesota.publicradio.org/features/npr.php?id=151681248). Part of what I find troubling is that many of these people continue to minister to congregations after losing faith, being more worried...

Re: Do you believe in a supernatural creator, God or gods of any sort?
You are correct that I didn't put the full text, but rather a short statement which I felt was key. My laziness in typing there. That claim of laziness is hard to believe, since you deleted the part of the sentence you quoted that undermined your assertion, giving the impression the Dictionary impl...

Re: Do you believe in a supernatural creator, God or gods of any sort?
Plate tectonics. Black holes. Heavier than air flight. Many accepted theories and technologies began as wishful thinking. That's confirmation bias. Of the three examples you mention that are positives, how many failed millions of wishful ideas aren't mentioned? Wishful thinking does not suffice. Th...
