Publication announcement

I have been a BookTalk member for awhile and am pleased to announce publication of the fourth edition of my book entitled, Understanding Biology through Evolution . It's a study guide, more or less, for undergraduates in a non-major, introductory course in biology. It's a POD available at http://sto...

I cast my 3 votes for:

Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body by Neil Shubin.

I do this mainly because I have already purchased the book and have begun reading it.

I don't sing in the shower. I used to whistle, but I guess I haven't been that happy in a long time.

I've occasionally heard the saying that "Americans don't get the government (i.e., elected officials) they want, they get the government they deserve." Has anyone else heard that? Does anyone have any suggestion as to what it means?

I am thoroughly disgusted with Ben Stein. Not that I have ever met the guy, or read his books, or even seen the so-called documentary Expelled! he made. However, I don't want to financially contribute to him, so I will not pay to do any of these things.

I agree with Stephen Hawking. I would only add that due to the nearly impossible journey between solar systems, the likelihood of an in-person meeting between a human and an "intelligient" life form is virtually nil...

Well I am a Christian so I believe when I die I will go to heaven. I also belive there are spirits that roam the earth. People that are trapped for some particular reason or another. So, have you ever seen heaven, or have you known anyone who returned to tell you about it? Have you ever seen one of...

I bought a copy of Tolstoy's War and Peace , figuring I should read it to become "well rounded," but it never sustained my interest. That's strange because I have read Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and thoroughly enjoyed it, even though when I pick it up today I wonder how I ever got t...

Afterlife

I do not "believe" in life after death because 1) there is no evidence of it and 2) I had no "life" before I was born, either. After all, isn't life after death a contradiction in terms? The only existence I have ever known is "life", so if I exist, I must be alive... :!:
