Hello From Nashville, TN!!!

Unread post

Hello every one! I'm Anna and I'm from Nashville, TN. I'm an avid reader and thought I'd try getting in on some discussions online.

This is my first forum experience EVER! I know that's sad to some of you. I also just got on Twitter as well today. (@theoriginalanna)

I absolutely LOVE reading the "classics", though I can be persuaded to read an occasional recent release. I also tend to lean toward short stories and novellas. I have a hard time staying motivated to read long novels. I tried to read You Can't Go Home Again and couldn't stick with it. I usually like stories that seem to be enjoyed by men rather than girls. I can't stand romance novels.

One of my favorite hobbies is going to used bookstores and finding my favorite classic books. I love to see the books all weathered and used. I just picked up a Shel Silverstein book that I loved when I was a kid. I like to go to the actual bookstore and weed through the stacks rather than search online for books I want. It's more of an adventure and I also like to give the local shops my business.

If I do read any current books, it's usually nonfiction books based on studies/stats, etc. I loved Good to Great (Collins) and How We Decide (Lehrer). I did recently read the first book in The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. I just couldn't get into it, so I haven't moved on to the second book.

A few of my favorite books/stories are:
The Old Man and the Sea (Hemingway)
For Whom The Bell Tolls (Hemingway)
Red Badge of Courage (Crane)
Heart of Darkness (Conrad)
Fahrenheit 451 (Bradbury)
The Catcher in the Rye (Salinger)
...and just about anything written by Edgar Allan Poe

I found BookTalk by searching on Google and it looks like my kind of virtual place to hang out!

See you all in the discussions!
Anna.

Hi Anna. We have a lot in common! Three of your favourite books are in my list, too. I love Hemingway and Conrad's "Heart of Darkness".

Welcome to BookTalk.org. :-)

I do the same thing. When I see an old tattered book I wonder who held and read it over the course of its lifetime. There is something magical about old books.
I like to go to the actual bookstore and weed through the stacks rather than search online for books I want. It's more of an adventure and I also like to give the local shops my business.
I feel the same way. There are a few local small bookstores that I enjoy visiting just because I want to support these people and their passion for books. The day seems to be on the horizon where print books will be a mere memory.
