So much for holding out against Facebook for my novel...

Unread post

My initial plan was to just connect with readers and writers here and on Goodreads, but I was quickly informed by well-intentioned cyber friends that a Facebook page for my book is necessary. I already broke down and joined Twitter but I'm pretty sure I feel safe and most sane in these discussions here. I'm not as serious as others seems to be concerning a life ahead of writing. My book, Tomorrow, may be it for me. I carried those characters around with me a long time and now they'll live "forever" and I'm fine with putting it out and going along whatever path is next. But here's the Facebook author page if anyone's in a Liking mood for updates as I learn how my book is received in this time ahead and share what I discover.

Hi ebailey, Like you I hung back from opening a Facebook page until recently. Can't say that it's helped sales though. I too prefer Goodreads!

I have two books out on Amazon but started my own epub to do it http://www.laptiast.com/

I also have a website http://www.brookskohler.com/

When it comes to promoting a book, advertising is key. Unfortunately, that cost a lot of money. The next best thing is social networking.

Do you have any samples of your book online that a person could link to? If I like it, I'll add a link on my site to the sample so my visitors can give it try.

Thank you. The link to Missing in Egypt is http://viewbook.at/Amazon_Missing-in-Egypt and for Winston - A Horse's Tale http://mybook.to/Amazon_Winston.

My website is http://www.ritaleechapman.com. I'd be happy to have you as a Guest Author if you are interested.

Hi Brooks127,
Thanks for your response. I did put up an excerpt on Goodreads where people can read a section of a chapter. The link is https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18877109-tomorrow

And thanks Rchapman for your response as well. Cheers everyone. :)

I'm not altogether convinced that having a FB page is particularly helpful. On the other hand, keeping a book visible on FB (and others) is essential. In fact, the key is to get other people on FB to share your posts - it's a bit like pyramid selling, but with greater integrity!

I agree with you Pippa. My initial instinct, and it still seems confirmed, was to find places like this where sharing interests and meeting people is more fulfilling than having what the Facebook page feels like--a digital billboard you hope someone drives by. Honestly I'm proud of my novel but I'm not panicking to have the globe see it. I actually was more excited to see some readers here discussing Jon Krakauer's books than I was getting my first sale. :)

Thanks for the links. I'm going to check them all out.

I had a Scribd.com page, but deleted it after a year of glitches. Anybody know of a site similar to Scribd.com that allows you to scroll through text?
