an egg is not an organism in itself, but a means of reproduction, which needed an organism to generate it.

So, some early single celled organism can stand in for the the chicken, and the process of cellular division would be the egg.

Before there was a chicken, there was the pre-chicken. The chicken occurred as a mutation of the pre-chicken when the pre-chicken produced an egg. Therefore, Egg!

Good question! the preegg would be a form of reproduction prior to the prechicken.

They most likely evolved together the same as other egg laying creatures from a microscopic replicator that happened to evolve a mutation which would allow a thin shell of proteins or some-such protectant layer to attach to it's offspring.

One in a million perhaps, but it sounds fun.

Wouldn't eggs have come first since amphibians and reptiles evolved before birds and were laying eggs?
