Books that should be made into a movie?

Any favorites?

Mine is Miracles, Inc. but I think it's too obscure to make the big screen. Any books out there that you think haven't received the Hollywood love they deserve?

if i had to chose a book to be made into a movie i'd have to say "Chill Factor" by Sandra Brown.

i'd love to see this murder mystery/storm disaster book brought to the big screen.

Blindness by Jose Saramago would make an awesome movie!
The Stand by Stephen king, it was made into a miniseries, a good one, but I would love to see it come to the big screen.
The Room by Emma Donoghue, I bet it would be an effing goldmine if they focused on good acting, instead of star power. you know what? that goes for every movie.

Two books by Douglas Adams: Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and The Long Dark Tea Time Of The Soul. Both hilarious SF novels by the writer of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series.

Oh, R. LeBeaux, there you go dragging Dirk into the room by the scruff of the neck again! I admit, they would make interesting movies, but you'd have to cast them just right. I was so turned off by the Hitchhiker's movie trailers that I refused to see it.

For my own part, I always wanted to see "Vertical Run", by Joseph Garber, given the movie treatment. It's an action-packed story about a former war vet who has worked in corporate America for over a decade since returning. One day he suddenly finds a group of professional killers trying to kill him for unknown reasons when he goes into the office. He is trapped in the skyscraper he works in and can only escape them by moving between the floors as he tries to figure out what is going on and how to fight back. Since he was a dirty tricks specialist by training, there is all sorts of interesting and nasty ways he can set booby traps around the building as it turns increasingly into a private war zone.

It would be perfect for a blow-em-up summer movie special effects fest, but the only sticky point is a lot of the conversation takes place between him and a sub-persona voice in his head, and Hollywood had serious issues with voice-overs or narrated thoughts. If they could find a way to work it, it would be a lot of fun.

Did anyone catch either the radio or TV adaptation of Dirk Gently? I somehow managed to miss both of them :( which is a shame, because I loved the books when I read them as a teenager.

Unrelatedly... since Harry Potter went stratospheric, I'm surprised no one's tried adapting the Worst Witch books for the big screen (although I suppose the premise might be too similar to have so soon). There was a TV movie back in the 80s with Diana Rigg and a young Fairuza Baulk, but I don't think it's aged very well.

I also think the Mortal Engines books, by Philip Reeve, would make excellent movies (sort of like Mad Max for kids).

I would like to see the Anita Blake Vampire hunter books made into movies...however, I feel that they would transfer better into a tv show. The first 10 or so of the series are amazing!
