Re: Do you like elephants?
Hi Amanda. I am from Texas also, and yes, I like elephants. I think they are cool (though I would not want one as a house pet (my two cats are enough). Glad you joined Book Talk, you will find some good people here and some interesting discussions. You might want to check out the current selections for discussion. Do you have a favorite genre? My own reading tastes are pretty broad. Have a great day.

Re: Do you like elephants?
Hi - just about to post my introduction so hello fellow newbie.
I was intrigued by your thread title because yesterday my daughter's book was critiqued by someone who said elephants hadn't been heard of in England when her book was set (late 19th Century). The first one was actually brough to London and Colchester in AD 43 by Emperor Claudius and the first elephant to live here (in England) was kept in the Tower Menagerie in London in 1255.
The elephant is my daughter's favourite animal too by the way! personally I love the grace of giraffes.

What area of Texas are you from? I'm about 30 minutes from San Antonio and about an hour from Austin.
I wouldn't want an elephant as a pet either. Maybe if they still had miniature ones like they used to! I don't really have a favorite genre. I like all kinds of books.
Steve
Wow I didn't know that. What book is your daughter reading?
You live in England? I went to London when I was about 12. I loved it!
Giraffes are also beautiful animals

Re: Do you like elephants?
Hi again Amanda,
Yes, I live in England - in Bedfordshire about 40 miles north of London.
The book I was referring to was the one my daughter's written and published (titled Blackened Cottage - there's a link to it in my signature) which mentions elephants. She's reading The Turn of the Screw by Henry James at the moment but I don't think there are any elephants in it!

Re: Do you like elephants?
Hi Amanda,
I live in east Texas, about an hour's drive southeast of Dallas. My wife and I are both retired, but we stay busy, tending our small herd of beef cattle (hence my 'handle.'). She likes to paint (she is an artist), while I a working on a novel (actually a triology - if I ever get it finished). Elephants, giraffes, polar bears are all neat, but my favorite animal is the rhinoceros.

Re: Do you like elephants?
I love elephants, and baby elephants are delightful. But they are only in zoos here. When we went to India, a young boy was letting his elephant wade in the river and it came over to me and closed its eyes, with long sexy eyelashes, whilst I scratched it under its chin. It was a moment that will live with me. We paid the boy a small amount.....but the thrill of beguiling such a creature, was priceless.
Back here, I like cats best. Cows and pigs come a close second, although I don't know any personally. I know quite a few cats personally. They seem aloof until they get to know you and then they are quite shameless in their seductive techniques.

Only those become weary of angling who bring nothing to it but the idea of catching fish.

Re: Do you like elephants?
Hello Amanda! Welcome to the board! We're glad to have you. Oh... and yes I love love love elephants! I love animals of all sorts. I went on a bit of a zoo tour this summer. Actually I was in Indianapolis last weekend and went to their zoo. They had a baby elephant and it was one of the cutest things ever!
