English Literature Lovers

Unread post

A few days ago, I was discussing English literature with a friend who is entirely Mediterranean and yet loves English novels. What is it about stories set in England that makes them so appealing? For example, is it Victorian manners, the English countryside or London scene, the particular sort of romance or mystery portrayed, the humanity expressed, or simply because it's good literature? Would we prefer a good, English novel to a translated Italian one of similar quality and topic? Is it because it's in English? Is it due to our personalities? All of the above? I hope this makes sense. To be sure, hooray for English lit!
