O.K. Bishop. I'll leave you to your superior world of reason. Since you thought Christianity was fair game I engaged with your ideas and beliefs. You don't think so, but you don't like answering questions it seems except when it suits you.
Incidentally the point Chris White was making was that Christianity forbade worshiping other Gods including Caesar and not that they were revolutionary zealots.
Thanks.

I took him to mean that the goddess evolved from cultural evolution. It is a belief, in the minds of men, aggrandized and accentuated over countless generations of storytelling. This is how all gods have come to be. It is why we see no sign of them, they are figments of our imagination. They hide in the cracks of our misunderstanding of reality. We plug our inability to understand coincidence and probability with the concept of a higher power.

I don't know maybe he can explain.
I have as much difficulty with intelligent minds being created by dumb matter as I do with Gods evolving from it. So much for reason.

by the way..,

its already been established here on BT that the crux of the entire mythicist argument is fallacious reasoning.

Here it is again for anyone that missed it.

The Gospels are obvious contrived myths, therefore Jesus did not exist.
-- non sequitur reasoning.

But anyone is free to continue to commit logical fallacies as they see fit.

I agree and let me add fuel to your fire as to what motivates us and the trap we also fall into.

Knowing the above is why Gnostic Christians like me are Gnostic Christians.

1. The only proper religion for mankind is humanity itself, for it is from this humanity that God first evolved.
God, who is our future, came from humans, who are Their past.

2. God is a glorified and exalted human being

Do you prefer to think that a good God would create as he does?

Did you see perfect works in that clip?

If Jesus is to be our loving shepherd, as the myth says, then where is he?

No good shepherd will leave his flock to the wolves and just disappear never to be seen again.

Another strike against him and his God, or himself, is that as a shepherd, at the end of days, we are told that he will utterly destroy the vast majority of his creations as defectives.

Strange that Christians do not question why a God who can cure as well as kill always kills and never cures. God always take the satanic moral ground instead of the moral Godly high ground.

Is this difficulty to do with the way things work, or with your ability to understand how they work? I can see perfectly well how intelligence can arise from blind physical forces.

But for gods evolving... we create them all the time, endlessly, across many genres of fiction. Think Cthulu. Created by HP Lovecraft. Thetans, created by L Ron Hubbard.

PS

If you can shake a bag of magnets and get intelligent life from it, I promise to leave BT forever.

Aha! You got me! Bam, debate point!

Which book do you want to start with? What we're talking about here is the larger portion of an entire worldview. Not a simple set of propositions. There is a chapter in Carrier's book that contains part of the understanding, the chapter on reductionism. I'm more than willing to start back up that discussion if you wish.
