Scroll down to the "Audio Books & eBooks" section and visit some of those sites. There are lots of free audio books you can download. I agree that audio books are far too expensive so I was pretty excited when I discovered all the free audio books available.

thanks for that comment. I think I'm not that bad when it comes to communication through writing. I just have my problems with talking.

You might find it easier on here....where you can't see peoples' faces.

Well, the faces and expressions of people aren't the main problem for me. There are just a few people, where that point is a problem for me. I just don't talk much in general, no matter which person it is. I have just one good friend with whom I can talk a bit more than usual, but it's still not very much compared to other people.
Well, can't be helped. I could try to change it, but that would mean to put in some effort and I'm a really lazy person.

Well, that's true. I also like to paint, but I don't think you could use that pictures for communication. It's just that they don't have anything to do with how I feel etc.

Could you 'paint' how you feel?

I used to sing.....and I could sing how I felt much more easily than I could express by talking.

Now I cannot sing anymore....so I type how I feel on this keyboard.

i'll jump in and say I often find the internet easier myself.
I'm not shy, but I find that the people who are usually keen on socializing are extroverts, who speak at a faster rate than i do and have a knack of covering the topics THEY are interested in, whilst smiling charmingly at you all the time (so it's difficult to be cross with them).
i go along with their choice of topic usually, because honestly diverting the flow, and especially keeping it diverted would require so much effort and energy from me.
So at the end of the conversation, the extrovert typically leaves, having covered all the topics that matter to him, and thinks he has had a really nice time.
On a discussion forum I get a better chance, and I can also develop if i'm so enclined.

Shy is charming!! I'm the opposite, never shy, but worrying for hours after a party about what I should or should not have said. Can't win can we?

Have the same issue, wondering if what I said was too much or if I should have spoke up more. It's a double edged sword in social settings for me.

I wonder if it is to do with education, always knowing the right thing to say.

I suppose if one is educated in etiquette, then one would never be socially embarrassed, but perhaps one would never be sincere either.

There is a lot to be said for knowing what is polite, even if we don't always do it.

My Mum taught me to dress with quiet good taste - but I don't.
