Saffron and I discussed this a while ago. We are both interested in using the chatroom but found that it's difficult to attract other members' attention as there are so many other things to look at on the main page.
One improvement Chris made was that when you read somebody's post it is mentioned on the left whether this person is now online or off-line.
If you are interested in a chat and see that other members are online, give it a try. I think it would be nice if the chatroom was used more than it is now.

You can also just send a PM to the user when you see them online.Ophelia wrote:Saffron and I discussed this a while ago. We are both interested in using the chatroom but found that it's difficult to attract other members' attention as there are so many other things to look at on the main page.

Of course the time difference makes us vary when we are on-line.
The European time difference means that most of our Booktalk notification emails come through during the night when we are asleep and I (personally) attend to them the next morning when you are probably asleep.![Very Happy :D](https://www.booktalk.org/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
