I'm from Maine. I'm 22. I work 2 jobs. I graduated college in 07. I would like to go back to school but at the same time I really want to follow my passion for books and open up a book store. I do some other things besides read like cross stitching, spending time with family all that fun stuff.
I'm a book worm. More so then most people my age. I read mostly young fantasy books. I've been known to read a few Vampire books here and there too. I also collect Stephen King books but I honestly think that's just a Maine thing! I enjoy some of the greats too like Tolkien, Shakespeare, and Poe.
When I read I tend to get lost in the book. I'll say I'm only going to read for an hour but before I know it 3 hours has gone by and I'm halfway done with the book!
I have a VERY long list of favorites. I also have a very large collection of books.
I would like to write a book. I've started to write a book. I have an idea but I constantly change the chapters and I can't really seem to make it go anywhere without feeling like I'm copying another authors work.
So that about sums me up. As you can see I like to talk!
Now where do I start?

To write for the love of writing.
I think anyone who wants to write a book should do so. Millions of people are doing it today with the use of the computer, spellcheck, free lance editors and plenty of readers. Then there are sites like this where you can get help and test your ideas. It is my opinion that when one writes for the love of writing and brings forth feelings and thoughts from the inner being, you won't mind the criticism, hard work or rejections. If you like it and enjoy doing it, get on with it and then see how it affects you after you have finished. I may be my best fan, but I enjoy reading my books years after they have been published.
Also, I like to think that someone many years from now might pick up one of my books and feel a connection with the past. It is like putting characters and drawings on the cave wall and later when someone finds it they will be thrilled. When I taught psychology many years ago, I used to use photographs of cave drawings and have the students try to figure out the message. Seldom do two people get the same message. Writers write differently and readers read differently. There are certain age groups that like my books better than others.
Good luck, I hope you open your bookstore and invite us all in for the open house.

Thanks Dr. I have a friend who writes. She would like to be published some day but has been told to many times her stories are a rip off of other authors. Where could I post maybe like the first chapter on here? or some of my story ideas.
You have published books out? What ones?
I'd love to study Psychology one day. Another one of my many dreams.
I doubt I'll open a book store any time soon. Not with the way the economy is. Theres no room for little independent book stores up here in Maine

Hi Amy,
Welcome to book talk. I'm glad you found us. Good luck with your writing. I've written a few books and I am currently editing another. Tell your friend not to give up.
I have boxes of rejection letters.
Hang in there. It will come.
