I'm currently reading Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian and Libra by Don DeLillo.
I started on these to tide me over until my most recent book purchase (Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong) arrived, which it did yesterday, although I'm still not finished with the books I started. This edition of Romance of the Three Kingdoms is in four volumes, each volume about 600 pages, so that should keep me occupied for a while.

Re: Currently reading?
I have a few chapters left in Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky.
The most basic question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best.

Re: Currently reading?
Reading Don Quixote because I'd resolved to reread rather than read many novels that I haven't read. I have an ancient Penguin with many of the pages about to fall out, have read it twice, but the last time well over 20 years ago. The Penguin has a helpful introduction advising which sections can be skipped in this 900-page classic. The Don of course is a total kick, but also by the end more than an insane bufoon. This is where the lovable, head-not-screwed-on-tight hero, who became very common, must have originated.

Re: Currently reading?
I still can't decide.
What I need to do is just pick up a book and start it. Then, unless it for some reason cannot hold my interest at all, I will be forced to finish it out of pure stubbornness.

All these poses of classical torture, ruined my mind like a snake in the orchard.
